Més Garreta!

“He is a remarkable man. I know of no other with such profound intuition. A man who has hardly ever ventured beyond his village, yet has written such beautiful pages of music.” (Pau Casals)

Little more needs to be said about Garreta’s musical excellence after Pau Casals’s words.

A programme inspired by Catalan musical Modernism, featuring two of Garreta’s key musical influences: Wagner and Beethoven. It is structured in three parts, following the model of the Pau Casals Orchestra, but giving each section its own meaning.

Garreta, a man deeply rooted in his hometown, yet engaged with and connected to Catalan Modernism and the musical world of his time. At GIO Symphonia, we see the centenary of his death and the 150th anniversary of his birth as an opportunity to rediscover his talent through the story of his life and to sketch a musical portrait of the Modernist movement that embraced this vibrant moment in our country’s history.
